Due to the nature of the role, you should be comfortable with extensive travel and spending time on sites in the UK and internationally.
Job Description
As a Static Commissioning Engineer, you’ll support the preparation and execution of static (pre-commissioning) commissioning activities for HVDC control systems. You’ll play a key role in site installation, testing, troubleshooting, and handover, working closely with customers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and carry out static (pre-commissioning) commissioning activities
Plan and coordinate site installation and testing work
Control system installation, cable laying, and termination
Configure, test, and troubleshoot IEC 61850 IEDs, HMI, TFR, and related systems
Cubicle, inter-cubicle, field interface, and analogue injection testing
Support interlock testing and wider system troubleshooting
Maintain accurate reports, as-built markups, and equipment records
Work closely with customers and project teams to resolve site issues
Follow EHS, customer safety, and commissioning standards at all times
Support system handover to dynamic commissioning and provide after-sales or RTDS lab support where needed
What We’re Looking For
Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience in commissioning, testing, or site installation of control systems
Knowledge of HVDC, substation automation, or power system control applications
Hands-on experience with IEC 61850 configuration, testing, and troubleshooting
Familiarity with HMI, TFR, interlocks, and field interface testing
Understanding of CT/PT/CVT testing and analogue injection testing
Knowledge of industrial networking and system troubleshooting
Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
A strong commitment to safe working practices
Comfortable with extensive travel and longer periods working on site, both in the UK and internationally.
Desirable
Experience in HVDC, FACTS, or substation control/protection projects
Exposure to RTDS lab testing or simulation activities
Previous site-based or customer-facing engineering experience
