Job Description Summary

This role is responsible for statutory financial filings including statutory audits with internal and external partners, plus oversee tax filings process and assure local compliance for the entities in scope.
Responsible for driving technical accounting compliance, financial and operational internal controls, process simplification, and operational excellence to deliver accurate actual financial reporting and analysis.
Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Focused on execution of standard enabling activities/provision of advice subject to policy and work routines within an enabling discipline.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and timely submission of statutory financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with local regulations and corporate policies.
  • Own and manage the full statutory audit lifecycle, from planning and coordination to resolution of audit findings, acting as the primary liaison for external auditors.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Regional business line, Tax, Legal, Treasury, Operations etc.) to collect, validate, and reconcile financial data and ensure completeness of disclosures.
  • Maintain strong relationships and manage engagements with external firms to ensure timely and efficient local external or tax audits.
  • Ensure adherence to and reporting of key statutory and tax KPIs and contribute to the continuous strengthening of internal controls.
  • Support and lead Lean and process improvement initiatives to enhance statutory and tax reporting processes, controls, and efficiency.
  • Act as country / entity stat & tax controller, with a sound understanding of business drivers, and proactively identify and report financial risks to the sub-region stat and tax Controller.
  • Oversee STAT to GAAP adjustments in Statutory HFM and ensure correct postings in SAP dual ledger (L1).
  • Lead deep-dive analysis and drive reduction of legal entity-level Stat-to-GAAP (S2G) reconciling items, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and simplification goals.
  • Coordinate and provide timely, accurate data to GEV tax teams to facilitate tax calculations, compliance, and filings.
  • Oversee region transactional taxes (VAT) and direct (CIT) filings and assure local regulators’ compliance
  • Manage direct and indirect tax booking, reporting, filing aligned with tax country regulations.
  • Responds to questions or requests from tax authorities if any, liaise / discuss / consult tax processes, refunds and payments with tax consultants and authorities.
  • Review tax provision, perform ASC740 (income tax expense analysis) and Effective Tax Rate analysis, validate / ensure timely and fairly stated tax balance sheet accounts, coordinate with businesses and local tax team with respect to valuation allowance and or tax reserve analysis. Prepare balance sheet notes for tax accounts, identify risks, and perform remedial action if relevant.
  • Assist with all tax operational matters and identify any compliance issues. Escalate matters to Tax Ops Leaders for advice and resolution.
  • Support and drive improvement initiatives to improve process efficiency Local finance/accounting representative to liaise with i.e., vendors, financial institutions, local authorities and or coordinate local (physical) documents flow, organizing and filing, archiving, signing, mailing / receiving processes, and the like.
  • Critical tasks :  Manage US GAAP Financial statement integrity, statutory accounts, and tax compliance practices (reliance to Japanese language skill).

Required Qualifications

  • Above 3-4 years’ experience doing similar role, with statutory and Tax experience focus.
  • Bachelor of accounting. Keen to learn
  •  Preferably has worked in accounting firms, accounting certification like CPA or ACCA is preferred.
  • Good in Japanese and English communication
  • Respect deadlines, responsive, good sense of urgency working time flexibility especially during tax filling and tight reporting period or meeting deadline situation.
