Description de l'emploi

Job Description Summary

The Wind Turbine Controls Engineer is part of the Turbine Functionality team which is part of the Controls & Operability organization which handles the full lifecycle of wind turbine controls development – development of new technologies, design and implementation on the actual product, prototype and field testing, and field issue resolution. In this role you will develop controls software for the wind turbine mechanical and electrical components. Additionally, you will be responsible for the development, improvement, and quality assurance of wind turbine control systems. This role provides first-hand knowledge of wind turbines & controls system design.

Job Description

As an intern, you’ll partner with your assignment leader to down-select and scope 1–2 projects aligned to your interests and track, with clear ownership from requirements through implementation and validation. Project options include:

  • AI Controls Development—accelerate time‑intensive controls work by defining and validating interfaces, workflows, and prompting to enhance existing processes.

  • End‑to‑end Alarm Management—own a defined set of alarms to improve availability, reliability, and serviceability while minimizing nuisance trips and flooding; perform fleet and Pareto analyses, identify false positives, document rationalization, write requirements, conduct failure analyses, and implement code changes.

  • Feature redesign—extend the latest redesign efforts to additional platforms by identifying applicability gaps, defining added requirements, adapting/integrating controls code, and planning/executing HIL tests to validate changes.

Qualifications/Requirements and Desired Characteristics

Mechanical / Electrical / Computer Engineering / Computer Science backgrounds.

Helpful skills include: Systems thinking, data mindset, ability to ramp quickly on new tools, outsider mindset

Outcomes

In this rotation, you will own 1–2 controls projects end-to-end, turning requirements into implemented and validated turbine features with visible impact on reliability, availability, and serviceability. You’ll gain hands-on experience building and integrating MATLAB/Simulink-based controls and executing rigorous verification, including HIL testing and failure analysis. You’ll practice disciplined engineering (traceable requirements, change control, safety/compliance) while collaborating with component owners, fleet performance management, and other Controls engineers, sharpening communication and technical leadership. By rotation end, you’ll have delivered production-quality code changes and reusable workflows/tools that accelerate future development.
