Job Description Summary

The CNC Machinist is responsible for supporting machining and finishing operations on gas turbine components, including post-braze inspection, EDM, steam cleaning, grit blast preparation, vision inspection, coating polishing, and laser hole clearing processes. In addition to executing process steps safely and accurately, this role is expected to demonstrate strong Lean behaviors, actively support problem solving, maintain 5S standards, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and productivity across the line.
The CNC Machinist plays an important role in driving overall Lean implementation by identifying improvement opportunities, supporting standard work, reducing waste, and helping improve process flow and operational performance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Machining and operate machines such as EDM, MKG, and other CNC and auto polisher in accordance with approved work instructions, process specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Read and interpret work instructions, quality forms, technical documentation, and engineering drawings to ensure accurate process execution.
  • Record and maintain accurate process and inspection data as required.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC, EDM, laser, polishing, and inspection equipment safely and effectively.
  • Inspect parts before and after machining, cleaning, polishing, and inspection processes to ensure conformance to quality requirements.
  • Adhere to Standard Work and Standard Work Combination Sheets to ensure consistency, quality, safety, and efficient line flow.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and application of Lean principles in daily work activities.
  • Perform grit blasting if required.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, quality, cycle time, flow, and waste reduction.
  • Support improvements in standard work, line organization, visual management, and process discipline to strengthen overall Lean implementation.
  • Contribute to team efforts that improve line performance, operational efficiency, and overall shop productivity.
  • Work within takt time and standard process flow expectations to support production goals.
  • Use shop floor systems and interfaces such as ELM and SmartShop as required.
  • Comply with company quality policies, safety requirements, applicable procedures, and standard work.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma, technical college degree, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Knowledge in CNC machining, EDM, laser machining, finishing, or related industrial manufacturing operations.

Desired Characteristics

  • Min 2 years’ experience with steam cleaninggrit blasting, and manual or automated coating polishing processes.
  • Min 2 years’ experience working with gas turbine components or other precision aerospace/industrial parts.
  • HAAS or similar brand of VTB / VTL / VFB / Lathe / Milling Machine experience.
