Job Description Summary
Are you passionate about innovation? Are you excited at the opportunity to electrify and decarbonize the world? We operate with a founder’s mindset. We deliver innovation with passion, speed, and courage. We continuously challenge our thinking and are empowered to dream big and take smart risks.
What impact you’ll make
As a member of the Process Industrialization team, you will help define, develop, and industrialize advanced CNC probing and on-machine metrology solutions that improve manufacturing capability, process consistency, and product quality.
You will be responsible for implementing robust probing strategies across CNC platforms to reduce setup variation, improve in-process verification, and support more capable and repeatable manufacturing processes for critical components.
If you know how to turn CNC probing and measurement technology into practical, production-ready solutions, we want you.
We are seeking a hands-on, experienced CNC Metrology & Probing Integration Specialist to lead the development, implementation, validation, and standardization of on-machine probing applications in a production environment.
This role combines CNC programming, control logic, in-process measurement strategy, hardware integration, process validation, and cross-functional problem solving, all while operating within our SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) values. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment, partnering across manufacturing, quality, operations, and engineering teams to deliver sustainable process improvements.
Job Description
What you’ll do
- Your main mission will be to develop, industrialize, and standardize CNC probing and on-machine metrology solutions that support quality, productivity, and manufacturing capability improvements.
- Develop, implement, and optimize probing routines for part setup, work offset setting, part alignment, in-process feature verification, and tool checking across CNC platforms used in production.
- Create and maintain machine-level probing logic, macros, and standardized routines that improve consistency, reduce setup dependency, and strengthen process control.
- Support closed-loop machining applications using probing data to update work offsets, coordinate alignment, and tool wear offsets where appropriate.
- Develop probing approaches for complex features, including multi-axis and non-orthogonal geometries, based on product requirements and machine capability.
- Support installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and sustainment of spindle probes, tool setters, and related machine-integrated metrology hardware.
- Establish standard methods, programming practices, recovery procedures, and best practices for probing applications across the shop.
- Translate drawing requirements, GD&T, and critical product characteristics into practical on-machine measurement routines.
- Partner with quality and manufacturing teams to validate on-machine measurement performance through repeatability studies, data correlation, and process verification activities.
- Investigate probing-related failures, instability, and process variation, and lead or support structured root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support development of work instructions, setup documentation, validation records, control plans, and training materials.
- Train and support programmers, engineers, and operators on standardized probing methods, troubleshooting practices, and effective use of machine-integrated metrology systems.
- Collaborate across engineering, operations, and quality teams to deliver scalable, sustainable solutions in a production environment.
- This role is 100% time on GE Vernova located in Greenville, SC site.
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in CNC machining, CNC programming, manufacturing engineering, metrology, or a related production engineering role.
- Experience with CNC probing, machine setup, offsets, in-process verification, or machine-integrated measurement systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with at least one major CNC control platform such as Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma, or Haas.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and apply GD&T concepts in manufacturing or inspection processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and desire to work on site in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work off-shift or flexible schedule at times- as required by project timelines.
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
What will make you stand out (Desired Characteristics)
- Experience with machine probing systems such as Renishaw, Blum, Hexagon, or equivalent.
- Experience with macro programming, custom probing routines, or advanced CNC control logic.
- Familiarity with Fanuc Custom Macro B and working knowledge of Siemens Sinumerik, Okuma OSP, or Haas probing environments.
- Experience implementing probing routines for multi-axis or complex geometry applications.
- Understanding of metrology principles such as repeatability, reproducibility, bias, correlation, and measurement capability.
- Experience supporting Gauge R&R, MSA, SPC, or related validation activities for measurement systems.
- Familiarity with statistical tools such as Minitab, JMP, or equivalent.
- Experience with process documentation, control plans, FMEA, validation, and structured problem-solving methods.
