The Control Systems Lead Project Engineer- Nuclear, will act as the single point of contact for engineering for Nuclear Steam Turbine Controls projects and may include other Unit Controls upgrades, who will be working closely with customers, Project Managers, and cross functional teams. In this role, you will lead the coordination of engineering and technology resources to ensure delivery of high quality, customer specific control system solutions. You will be responsible for overseeing & designing and executing technical solutions from initial concept through manufacturing and final commissioning. This position offers direct customer engagement and the opportunity to support system startup and commissioning at both domestic and international customer sites.As part of a collaborative engineering team, you will work alongside experienced professionals to develop customized solutions that help power the world’s energy infrastructure. Job Description
What you’ll do
- Provide engineering oversight & support for retrofit control systems for Steam Turbine controls related to Nuclear Power plants by partnering with the project managers. Be accountable for project deliverables, customer requirements compliance, solid execution and team performance. Other units controls upgrade support too would be needed as needed.
- Ensure all customer requirements are met including any regulatory or technical standards ensuring traceability be demonstrated for compliance.
- Work weekly with Alliance Project Planner from our execution Alliance partner, reviewing project action items, status of tasks/schedule, evaluating risk on projects, making plans for proper escalation
- Coordinate with Technical Leader and Control Title Holder to consult on bigger complex challenges
- Lead Project team to achieve business Key Performance Indicators On-Time Delivery execution (OTD) of the project and with First Pass Yield (FPY) mindset, while ensuring conformance to applicable design practices & procedures, assuring product quality
- Own the Project Engineering hours budgets and assign them to the project team(s)
- Own the Project Milestone schedules and make sure all deliverables are provided on schedule
- Support the commercial business team to review customer conforming bid specifications and in developing technical scope of supply using structured products whenever possible and conceiving of new solutions when necessary to meet customer requirements.
- Reinforce and ensure compliance to nuclear specific and applicable non-nuclear technical regulations and standards with the engineering team. Examples include Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electrical & Machinery Safety, and seismic analysis.
- Provide technical direction and oversight to responsible controls engineers to perform customer witness test planning and execution in the factory test environment. This includes proper documentation of test results and correction of any discrepancies detected during system testing.
- Review of contract documentation and customer specifications for technical impact
- Provides mentoring, direction, and leadership to team members
- Design systems for interface to existing turbine control equipment, and evaluate all system components, requirements, and interactions
- Support customer meetings, factory acceptance testing, and eventually installation and commissioning of control systems
- Frequently interact with customers and suppliers
- Up to 15% Domestic and international travel may be required
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience including a detailed understanding of power application with turbine-generator control systems for Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines or respective Excitation Controls.
- Knowledge and experience with electrical and mechanical control systems.
- Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a matrix management environment.

- Experience working with Nuclear Customers
- Familiarity with Non-GE turbines or Non-GE control systems.
- Experience on ALSTOM Steam Turbines and Compressor Controls.
- Experience on MarkV, MarkVI, MarkVIe and EX2100e Systems.
- Familiarity on GE HMIs, Networking and Cyber Solutions.
- Green Belt certified, or other lean training.
- Familiarity with the ControlST software suit.
- Familiarity with power plant methods of communication and networking with DCS systems such as MODBUS.
- Experience in leading large (multi-million-dollar) projects with multiple partners and stakeholders.
- Experience in product development and familiarity with customers and the competitive landscape.
- Patents and/or publications related to steam turbine controls or other technology.
- Direct experience working at installed base nuclear power generation facilities or nuclear power generation equipment.
- Ability to leverage Artificial Intelligence platforms to enhance productivity and effectiveness of engineering results.
