Let’s Talk about the Role

As Design Engineer - Power Electronics, you help design and develop reactive power compensation systems that improve grid stability, support efficient transmission, and deliver value to customers around the world.

You work on the electrical design and specification of power electronics valves for delivery projects, support testing and commissioning activities, and contribute to sales and sourcing discussions by preparing technical inputs and evaluating cooling system quotations. You also help ensure equipment performs as intended through factory and site testing, working with colleagues across engineering, supply chain, and project delivery.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the electrical design and specification of power electronics valves of assigned delivery projects. Valves are based on thyristor and IGBT technologies.
  • Once thoroughly trained to the subject, will participate in the Thyristor valve routine tests and type tests in co-operation with the valve lead engineer.
  • Participate in project commissioning phase of power electronics valves, either remotely or locally at the substation.
  • Support sales team in technical aspects related to power electronic valves and cooling systems.
  • Prepare request for quotations (RFQs) and validate quotations of cooling systems in co-operation with sourcing team.
  • Participate Cooling system FAT tests remotely or locally.

Desired characteristics

  • You are a technically minded, collaborative engineer who enjoys working on practical solutions that make a real difference to power systems.The ability to design and specify power electronics equipment for delivery projects
  • Technical Experience: Substantial experience in Electrical Component Engineering and power electronic
  • The capability to contribute to testing, commissioning, and technical problem-solving during project delivery
  • An understanding of electrical power engineering, reactive power compensation systems, and valve-based power electronics
  • An understanding of water cooling systems and embedded systems is an advantage
  • An expertise in electrical component engineering and power electronic.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Finnish language skills are preferred
  • A willingness to travel as needed to support project and testing activities

A formal education and subsequent University Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in power electronics or a related field are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
