The Project EHS Manager works in close partnership with the project leadership, the site EHS managers and the EHS roles of our consortium partners and subcontractors to prevent injuries, control risks, protect the environment, promote the health for everyone involved in the project and ensure disciplined implementation of project EHS plans, procedures, and standards.#LI-Remote - This is a remote position
Job Description Summary
The Project EHS Manager HVDC (m/f/d) is GE Vernova’s lead Environment, Health & Safety representative on during the planning and execution on a German HVDC project team and the main HVDC contact to our customer.The role is responsible for development and driving all EHS aspects within the project scope, ensuring full compliance with applicable legal, customer, and GE Vernova requirements, and promoting a strong safety culture across the whole project, including integration of EHS aspects with our partners at the shipyards and offshore. The Project EHS Manager works in close partnership with the project leadership, the site EHS managers and the EHS roles of our consortium partners and subcontractors to prevent injuries, control risks, protect the environment, promote the health for everyone involved in the project and ensure disciplined implementation of project EHS plans, procedures, and standards.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
EHS Leadership & General EHS Management
- Act as the primary EHS leader and focal point for the entire project including the EHS interface to the customer.
- Provide visible EHS leadership and proactive support to the Project Management, consortium partners and subcontractors
- Build and promote a strong safety culture and ensure EHS is embedded across all project activities
- Support the implementation of GE Vernova EHS strategy, standards and programs,
- Serve as the key EHS interface for customer, consortium partner and subcontractors
- Understand regulatory changes and trends and forecast business impacts.
- Perform and coordinate the delivery of EHS trainings, ensuring the competency of personnel within their scope.
- Support project management to implement, monitor and continuously improve the project’s EHS management and performance in line with GE Vernova requirements and applicable standards
- Conduct and facilitate risk assessments and hazard analyses; define, track and verify corrective and preventive actions
- Plan and perform EHS audits, inspections and site walks; follow up on findings and support closure in a timely manner
- Support the application of “Design for EHS” in projects (e.g. engineering controls, safe work methods, layout and access concepts)
- Promote Safety as the first priority for all actors in the project - communicating pro-actively and leading by exemplary behavior
- Report to EHS Functional Leader as well as project organization (dotted line)
EHS Reporting, Incident Management & Learning
- Conduct EHS reporting in line with GE Vernova processes and timelines (KPIs, dashboards, monthly/quarterly reports)
- Ensure accurate and timely registration, classification and escalation of incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions in the designated EHS tools
- Coordinate together with the regional EHS leader and the project management team the incident investigation and reports, ensure that investigations of accidents and compliance incidents are conducted, documented, and reported as required.
- Track action implementation and effectiveness; share lessons learned and best practices across projects, sites and teams
Safety Culture, Training, and Workforce Engagement
- Lead and support project EHS meetings and campaign activities
- Coordinate and reinforce GE Vernova safety culture programs across the project
- Ensure EHS expectations are clearly communicated to employees, contractors, and visitors
- Promote workforce engagement and encourage active participation in hazard reporting, observations, and continuous improvement
Subcontractor EHS Management
- Verify EHS competency, qualifications, and readiness of subcontractors mobilized to site
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with approved EHS plans, legal requirements, and project rules
- Support onboarding, performance reviews, and interventions where subcontractor EHS performance is below expectations
Qualifications / Requirements
Education & Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety or related field
or technical/vocational qualification with substantial relevant professional EHS experience - Recognized qualification as Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit (Safety Specialist) according to German regulations (DGUV) as well as SiGEKo
- Proven experience in lead EHS role, ideally in construction, installation or industrial project environments in HV electrical environments
- Solid knowledge of German occupational health & safety and environmental regulations as well as environmental management on construction sites and permit-to-work and control-of-work systems
- Experience in multi-national projects and work environments
Language & IT Skills
- Fluent German (spoken and written)
- Good English (spoken and written), including the ability to prepare documentation, reporting and trainings in both languages
- Confident user of MS Office; experience with EHS management systems and digital EHS tools is an advantage
