Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
The Gas Turbine (GT) Controls Software Standards Development Engineer will partner with the GT Controls Technology Development and Project Engineering teams throughout the controls design and fulfillment processes. They will be responsible for leading the development and maintenance of the Software Standards including developing controls features, incorporating lessons learned, validation testing, and configuration management of the Standards.
In addition, the Gas Turbine Controls Software Standards Development Engineer will:
- Collaborate with the GT Controls Technology Development team to guide new system and feature designs early in the development process to help drive good design decisions in relation to standards development and maintenance
- Partner with Technical Leaders, Standards Architects, and Principal Engineers to coordinate consistent solutions across all Gas Turbine engine designs and standards
- Help review requirements, design inputs, and feature definitions to identify ambiguity, missing content, conflicting expectations, and implementation risk before development begins.
- Perform technical scrutiny of completed controls designs and standards content to verify alignment with requirements, intended functionality, and sound engineering practice.
- Support validation testing using high-fidelity simulation models for controls software standards releases, including evaluation of results and resolution of issues prior to release.
- Identify missing, incomplete, or unclear implementation instructions and work with stakeholders to drive closure before design release or project execution.
- Apply systems thinking across turbine, auxiliary, and plant control functions to ensure designs and standards are robust, integrated, and scalable across product applications.
- Evaluate cross-system interactions and unintended consequences of controls changes to improve design quality and maintainability.
- Collaborate with and maintain close, responsive, and productive working relationship with the Controls Project Engineering team to ensure the standards are delivering on project needs.
- Support development and integration of Product Cost Out (PCO) initiatives into the GT Controls Software Standards
- Utilize Lean principles and explore GenAI concepts to drive continuous improvement into the GT Controls Standards
- Work with the Product Owner to plan and prioritize Sprint development to meet PI commitments
- Provide clear communication of development status to the team and business leaders
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BS degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Computer, or equivalent)
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
- MS degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical or Computer)
- Internship experience in an industrial environment
- Experience giving formal presentations
- Demonstrated working knowledge of GE Control Systems
- Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework Scrum team
- Enthusiastic self-starter who leads by example, sets stretch goals and is committed to team building
- Experience working in an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) role.
- Proven oral and written communication skills, and experience presenting to both business leaders and team members
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to understand interactions across combined cycle power plant combustion engine and Balance of Plant systems
- Proven ability to identify gaps, ambiguities, and missing implementation details and drive resolution across cross-functional teams
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgment
- Ability to translate lessons learned, field issues, and validation outcomes into improved standards and design practices

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $72,000.00 and $108,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
