Job Description Summary

OSS/On-site Services is looking for motivated, experienced, and skilled Alignment Specialist with expertise in repairing power generation equipment. OSS/On-site Services is seeking a motivated, experienced, and highly skilled Alignment Specialist with expertise in the repair of power generation equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, a commitment to continuous learning, and the adaptability to grow within this evolving industry. Candidates should possess working knowledge of GE, Alstom, or other OEM power turbine equipment, along with hands-on experience in portable on-site machining, particularly with large lathes, boring bars, drills, and mills.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute assignments in accordance with GE EHS and Quality requirements.

  • Complete all required pre-job planning and post-job reporting to meet customer needs, as assigned. This may include machine and tooling preparation, ordering parts and supplies, and preparing and reviewing the EHS Safety Plan and Quality Plan.

  • Lead turbine alignment projects by collecting precision measurement data using FARO laser, analyzing, interpreting results, and recommending casing and bearing adjustments according to the specifications.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the On-Site Machining (OSM) service offering, with the ability to independently complete assignments to the customer’s satisfaction. Typical repair activities include turbine rotor machining, turbine casing machining repairs, and valve seat retrofits.

  • Provide regular OSS progress updates to the OSS Service Manager and the project customer team.

  • Provide technical directions to personnel performing work at customer sites in alignment with technical requirements. Offer guidance and leadership on crew duties and assignments to ensure projects are completed safely, with quality results, and within the established schedule.

  • Support OSS Supervisors on large repair and machining projects as needed.

  • Perform specialist duties including, but not limited to, executing projects as assigned by OSS resource managers, developing innovative service offerings, delivering training to the broader OSS team, promoting safety, quality, and customer-focused culture onsite.

  • Ensure all field documentation is completed accurately, including Safety Observations, Quality Documents, daily turnover logs, and customer final reports.

  • Mentor and develop OSS technicians through on-the-job training and leadership.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma/GED with 4+ years of equivalent industry experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of field service repair or factory/turbine repair experience.

  •  Hands-on experience with portable on-site machining, particularly with large lathes, boring bars, drills, and mills.

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of turbine components, and repair practices within power generation environments.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively, with no restrictions, both domestically and internationally.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and second shift as needed.

  • GE will only employ candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this position. Any offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

  • Minimum of 10 years of field service or factory machining repair experience.

  • Experience developing work instructions and leading an hourly union workforce.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers and earn and maintain their trust and respect.

  • Experience with portable machining equipment (large lathes, boring bars, drills, and mills) and the ability to interpret drawings and specifications.

  • Curiosity and initiative to propose improvements, generate new ideas, and develop technical instructions. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in customer-facing environments.
