Job Description Summary
This posting is for the Instrumentation Engineering Specialist position with the Performance Testing team in Gas Power. The Performance Test team executes highly technical services on many turbine/plant configurations (Gas, Steam, Combined Cycle, Wind) both in the field and remotely.The successful execution of these global services requires that the team adhere to internal processes while being open to challenges that may arise. Instrumentation Engineering Specialists are accountable for the quality of the data collected from customers’ power plants for both commercial and internal purposes.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on support for thermal performance testing of steam and gas turbines at combined cycle power plants. While on site, the Instrumentation Engineering Specialist role is labor intensive
- Execute or provide the technical direction for the installation of test instruments, to accurately measure the pressures, temperatures, flows, and kilowatt outputs required to calculate the thermal performance of the unit(s) or power plant
- Support for Basic and Advanced Emissions testing at Power plants. This job requires physical effort and the ability to work at significant heights
- Occasionally the Specialist will be the sole representative of the Performance Team while at site, therefore required to lead all onsite activities associated with the preparation and execution of a performance test, while simultaneously coordinating with multiple site teams and the remote engineering team
- Role requires 80% travel to both domestic and international power plant sites. The duration of the field tests ranges from one (1) to (8) weeks. Instrumentation Specialists are on call and can be required to travel with little notice
- Support EHS excellence on all jobs performed
- Provide insightful job performance feedback to People Leaders
- Assist in quality initiatives and corrective actions
Required Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Instrumentation or 5 years of related experience
- Minimum of 3 years of industry experience in the areas of instrumentation used for thermal performance testing and evaluation
- Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 80%) to both domestic and international power plant sites in support of testing

Desired Characteristics:
- Understanding of instrumentation principles, their physics principles, calibration, installation requirements, operation, communications, and troubleshooting.
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute testing
- Experience in testing, and operation of turbines in the field of power generation, aviation, or marine propulsion systems
- Strong computer skills
- Understanding of Power Plant design, operation, and how different parameters affect the overall performance of turbines and power plants
- Team player, able to integrate, prioritize and coordinate activities with multiple teams
- Requires good interpersonal skills
- Must be a self - starter who can work issues to completion with use of work instruction
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to business leaders and customers
- Fluent in the English language
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Desire for continual improvement and skills development
- Willingness to collaborates with others to solve issues
- Familiar with industry protocols, HART, Fieldbus, Modbus
