Our Electrification solutions modernize grids, enable renewable integration, and strengthen energy systems. From software to power conversion and storage, we help create smarter, more resilient energy networks.

Let’s Talk about the Role

The Lead Commissioning Engineer will oversee and execute all technical, construction, and commissioning activities on customer sites, ensuring safe, timely, and high‑quality delivery from site mobilisation through to final handover.

In this role, you will take ownership of the full commissioning lifecycle, coordinating civil works, erection activities, and system commissioning while ensuring all work meets GE Vernova’s standards for safety, quality, and performance. You will operate with a balance of autonomy and structured guidance, adapting procedures where needed to achieve the required outcomes in terms of quality, timeliness, and volume. Acting as a key technical leader on site, you will manage day‑to‑day operations, interface with customers, and drive successful execution across multidisciplinary teams. Your contribution will be essential in delivering complex projects reliably and efficiently, supporting both customer satisfaction and organisational excellence.

Your Impact

  • Promote and uphold a strong site safety culture by modelling safe working practices and ensuring all commissioning activities comply with GE Vernova EHS standards.
  • Lead the testing and commissioning of substation equipment, delivering all activities efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in strict alignment with approved quality processes.
  • Manage and direct daily commissioning resources on site, ensuring clear work allocation, effective coordination, and maximum productivity to support successful project delivery.
  • Prepare, issue, and maintain all required site documentation—including RAMS, NCRs, and TQs—ensuring full compliance with established procedures and transparent communication of deviations.
  • Act as the LV Authorised Person (Advanced), applying GE Low Voltage Safe Systems of Work procedures and demonstrating expert technical judgement during incidents or complex site conditions.
  • Serve as a key technical leader by resolving commissioning challenges independently, supporting minor upgrades, and providing clear, timely communication to Site Managers and Project Engineers.
  • Organise and execute commissioning activities to agreed programmes, applying company policies effectively while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Special Role Requirements

  • Able to travel extensively to and from projects and various field assignments.
  • Willing to work overtime as required by field assignments.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

You should be a highly skilled electrical engineering professional with strong commissioning expertise, deep knowledge of HV substation systems, and the ability to operate confidently on complex construction and field service projects across the GSI region. You should also have…

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with a solid grounding in power systems and protection principles.
  • Strong technical experience with HV substation protection relays, SCADA systems, IEC 61850 protocols, and the commissioning of HV/LV switchgear and associated equipment.
  • Proven capability in fault‑finding on protection schemes using tools such as Omicron, Programma, and Megger, supported by strong analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Computer‑literate and comfortable working with digital tools, documentation systems, and test software used in modern substation environments.
  • Practical understanding of construction and field service operations, ideally gained within high‑voltage transmission or grid‑integration projects.
  • Experience working within the North & South Europe Grid System Integration (GSI) environment—or similar turnkey HV project settings-supporting AC and DC transmission solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and site personnel across multiple countries.

Where and how you'll work

  • This is a fully remote position based in the UK. All our Engineers are home based with company cars included as part of the package.
