Job Description

Job Description Summary

The Lead Energy Technology Analyst is a technical execution role within the Technology Strategy team, part of the Enterprise Development, Growth & Excellence (EDGE) organization. This position is responsible for rigorous techno-economic assessment of emerging technologies and new business models. By applying scientific and engineering first principles and leveraging internal/external datasets, the analyst will evaluate the technical and economic viability of a diverse range of innovations to provide the quantitative foundation required for investment recommendations to GE Vernova senior leaders.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Techno-Economic Execution: Conduct end-to-end quantitative analysis of proposed technologies and business models. Use engineering first principles and modeling tools (e.g., Aspen, Excel) to validate technical performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Model Development & Maintenance: Build and maintain robust internal models to assess new innovation opportunities; execute sensitivity analyses to identify the primary drivers of cost and performance.
  • Market Intelligence & Assessment: Proactively scan the energy landscape to capture relevant external data, competitive trends, and industry benchmarks. Engage with the Corporate Strategic Marketing team as well as other marketing and strategy teams to understand energy industry value pools and growth segments.  Integrate this intelligence into techno-economic models to ensure assessments reflect current market realities and emerging best practices.
  • Documentation & Delivery:  Create clear communication narratives describing the technology and/or business model with concise, actionable outputs for senior leaders, including the CTO, Head of M&A, and business unit leadership. Deliverables include technical white papers, executive memos, and high-impact presentation materials.
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Engage with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across GE Vernova’s business units and the Advanced Research Center to stress-test assumptions and ensure all findings align with technical and market realities.
  • Quality Assurance & Risk Identification: Perform rigorous self-critique and peer review of analytical outputs to ensure accuracy and logical consistency. Proactively identify "red flags" and risks within proposed innovations and/or assessment methodologies.
  • Standardization: Maintain a repository of technical/economic models, ensuring consistency in assumptions and methodologies to facilitate auditability and repeatability across the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the power generation industry and/or energy market financial structures.
  • Experience with thermodynamic modeling software (e.g., Aspen) or other energy system evaluation tools, and/or system-level economic modeling tools.
  • Detailed knowledge of one or more of the following: power generation technologies and systems, electrical transmission & distribution technologies and systems, energy storage equipment and systems, electricity markets and pricing mechanisms.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Marketing.
  • Proficiency in thermodynamic modeling software (e.g., Aspen) or other energy system evaluation tools, and/or system-level economic modeling tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to decompose complex, ambiguous problems into fundamental engineering and economic components.
  • Strong communication skills —the ability to concisely communicate highly technical concepts (both orally and in written formats) to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
