Job Description Summary

Drives initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering function and interfaces with other functions to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Help the Head of Maintenance/Maintenance lead as required.
  • Lead a team of mechanical maintenance technicians and supervisors.
  • Ensure the planning and scheduling of routine Mechanical maintenance work.
  • Ensure the execution of Preventative Maintenance is carried out and documented according to the Quality standards.
  • Manage the team executing plant Mechanical maintenance work according to the maintenance schedule for all the Mechanical, Piping and systems.
  • Perform inspections and oversight of maintenance work to ensure quality work is executed.
  • Ensure orders are prepared to enable maintenance execution.
  • Write material requisitions and support to customer.
  • Ensure maintenance records/ reports are maintenance and issued to customer.
  • Comply with the Mechanical Maintenance requirements, applicable project standards and norms.
  • Be responsible for arranging all the resources (this includes but is not limited to manpower, tools, special tools and consumables) required to attend to any planned and general maintenance.
  • Provide technical support on technical issues, troubleshooting of plant breakdowns.
  • Ensure the team is available to support plant breakdowns.
  • Training of maintenance team on site.
  • Manage the plant Mechanical testing equipment, ensuring the test equipment is compliant / calibrated to carry out the maintenance work on the plant.
  • Ensure compliance to GE Vernova EHS and Eskom EHS requirements on site.
  • Deliver project tasks and deliverables on time.
  • Execute outage related activities and deliverables within budget.
  • Document and archive the Mechanical work performed on site
  • Support to plant outages and re-commissioning as required
  • Support to QA department as required
  • Reviewing and managing Vendor documentation as required
  • Compile outage scope of work and supporting the planning department

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 Years Experience on Thermal Power Plants, Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (WFGD) plants
  • Be able to read and interpret Mechanical drawings (P&IDs, Maintenance Manuals (OMMs) etc.)
  • Experience in the use of the Maintenance Tools
  • Solid knowledge of Eskom Plant Safety Regulation and GE Vernova Permit to Work systems

Desired Characteristics

  • Professional Registration with ECSA
  • Management/Leadership experience
  • Experience on Mechanical equipment and systems maintenance or commissioning.
  • Good general computer skills (PC, Windows, Office) and relevant discipline programs
