Job Description Summary

Based at our Glasgow office, the Control System Service Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of GE control systems across onshore and offshore substations. Reporting to the UK Service Leader, you will provide engineering validation, lead commissioning and maintenance activities, and deliver exceptional technical support to our customers. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge substation automation systems and contribute to the energy transition.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform control system validation and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Commission substation control systems (SCADA, HMI, auxiliary systems, communication networks, firewalls, and cybersecurity) at customer sites.
  • Lead maintenance services, including first-line fault diagnostics and resolution for installed control systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to customer representatives on installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Support engineering tasks such as database configuration, upgrades, network setup, and cybersecurity testing.
  • Manage fault reports and customer complaints in line with defined procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Centre of Excellence on product and system obsolescence management.
  • Prepare detailed reports, timesheets, and monthly activity summaries.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and quality standards, including RAMS documentation.
  • Maintain GE/Customer Competent Person Authorization and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10 years of experience in substation automation systems, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA/DCS systems, networking, communication protocols, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience with GE protection relays and DS Agile SCADA preferred.
  • Ability to travel globally (approx. 160 days/year) and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in English.

Desired Characteristics

  • Expertise in commissioning substations (11kV–400kV).
  • Skilled in functional testing of SCADA/HMI panels and cybersecurity validation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and customer service orientation.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to work extended hours when required.
  • Offshore certification and basic first aid skills are advantageous.
