Job Description

GE Vernova's Hydro Service engineering team works at the sharp end of the energy transition — keeping the world's hydroelectric infrastructure running efficiently, reliably, and safely. As a Lead Service Engineer specialising in generator rehabilitation, you'll be the primary technical partner for hydro customers through the full project lifecycle: from initial diagnostic and offer development, through design and execution, to commissioning and warranty close-out.

With a strategic focus on growing GE Vernova's generator rehabilitation business in the Norwegian market, this is a role that combines deep engineering expertise with real commercial and customer impact — and puts you at the centre of a global cross-functional network spanning engineering, supply chain, construction, and project management.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities span two interconnected phases: offer development and project execution. Across both, you'll serve as the single point of technical contact for customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Lead offer development — analyse customer technical requirements and collaborate with project managers to define the optimal technical proposal (balancing quality, cost, and schedule); conduct site visits on existing equipment where needed; prepare technical instructions, plans, and budget inputs; coordinate with internal and external subcontractors to validate feasibility; and consolidate and submit offers within customer-defined deadlines. Support commercial managers during negotiations with technical presentations and clarification responses.
  • Own project execution and technical delivery — act as the privileged technical contact for awarded projects (with a particular focus on Norwegian customers); design technical solutions that meet contractual specifications in compliance with technical guides, engineering processes, quality requirements, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) rules, and cost and schedule commitments; issue and manage work packages to engineering centres of excellence or external subcontractors including scope, budget, and planning; and manage change orders, non-conformities, and general issue resolution.
  • Conduct site inspections and field support — inspect and audit existing equipment to define maintenance and repair scopes; provide on-site technical support to answer questions and anticipate problems during work phases; support commissioning, testing, and performance testing phases; and perform site missions during critical project phases.
  • Drive commercial development — identify and propose recommendations for additional work during dismantling and inspection activities; build and maintain customer relationships to support the growth of GE Vernova's service market in Norway; and contribute to experience feedback loops to improve future offer and execution quality.
  • Monitor and report engineering performance — track key project engineering indicators including engineering man-months (MM), on-time-in-full order-to-remittance (OTR) metrics, non-conformity reports (NCR), supplier deviation requests (SDR), and engineering change requests (ECR); manage project risk and opportunity; and participate in project monitoring meetings.

Who We're Looking For

You're an experienced service or project engineer with a background in hydroelectric or rotating machine engineering — someone who combines technical rigour with strong communication skills and a genuine appetite for customer-facing work in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Required

  • A degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A formal qualification is relevant to the depth of technical design and analysis work required in this role; however, we are equally interested in your total experience and professional achievements — significant, proven experience in a design or service engineering environment covering hydroelectric generators, rotating machines, or energy evacuation equipment will be considered.
  • Significant experience in a design office or field service environment within the hydroelectric, rotating machines, or power generation sector.
  • Proven experience managing projects or technical scopes in a global matrix organisation, including coordination across engineering, supply chain, construction, and commissioning functions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with customers, subcontractors, and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for site missions (short periods, low frequency).
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Legal authorisation to work in Norway and/or France (visa sponsorship availability will be assessed based on business and legal requirements).

Preferred

  • Experience in the mechanical engineering of turbines or generators and assembly methods for rotating machines.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis methods including finite element analysis (FEA), materials strength, metallurgy, and welding processes.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) tools — 2D AutoCAD Mechanical and/or 3D NX.
  • Fluency in Norwegian (spoken and written) — highly advantageous given the focus on developing the Norwegian market.
  • Experience identifying and developing business opportunities within a service or aftermarket engineering environment.
