Job Description Summary

The Logistics and Customs Specialist’s role is mainly to coordinate and follow up import activity and special programs along with the requirements this entails. Their main responsibility is to ensure GE Vernova parts , tools, equipment and lab samples are imported / exported and cleared successfully and timely.

Job Description

What you will do:

  • Coordinate and manage transportation activities (international and local) in line with the GEV Power policies and rate cards

  • Collect transportation quotes and assure cost control

  • Generate shipping documents in line with the GEV Power systems and processes

  • Manage the transportation companies and assure the operational KPI’s are met

  • Update the GEV Power transportation systems in timely manner

  • Manage the operational aspect of the temporary/permanent export and import activities into any repair facility or GE factory

  • Prepare and submit temporary import requests to customs through the broker and ensure approval is granted on time

  • Maintain temporary import extensions as required

  • Collect export shipping documents, prepare bank guarantee/deposit recovery letter, and submit file to customs to recover the bank guarantee/ cash amount for the payable amount of duty and VAT upon import

  • Daily follow up with the different customs borders and governmental entities for the submittal of new files and recovery of previously submitted ones

  • Request recovery reports from customs and reconcile them with GEV records

  • Manage disputes and issue resolution with customs in case of mismatches or discrepancies in the documents, or the serial numbers of the exported parts

  • Escalate to Senior Customs Operations Manager any issues or requests from Customs authorities

  • Prepare letters and submit requests for permits like (but not limited to) Telecom, Environment, Civil Defence, etc., execute follow ups and handover to the broker in timely manner assuring clearance within the business KPI’s

  • Submit Duty exemption requests to the relevant authorities, follow up with the authorities and the internal stakeholders to collect the requirements when and where needed assuring success.

  • Manage the duty exemption certificate balances

  • Follow EHS directives and/or warn others to follow them

  • Immediately report any incidents or near misses to the direct reports and EHS department

  • Immediately shut down the operation if it endangers life or a risk of serious injury is present

  • Further tasks not involved in this Job Description that the immediate leader/manager assigns verbally or in writing

  • Serve as primary liaison with customs, standards bodies, port/airport authorities, and other regulators (e.g., telecom, metrology, environment, defense as applicable)

  • Obtain product approvals, technical inspections, and special permits (e.g., hazardous materials, batteries, pressure equipment)

  • Arrange and attend physical inspections with authorities; resolve compliance queries and post-clearance actions

  • Documentation and Master Data

  • Own the accuracy of item master trade attributes (HS code, ECCN, country of origin, unit of measure)

  • Ensure correct use of Incoterms 2020 in POs and sales orders; coach internal teams on trade documentation requirements

  • Validate supplier and forwarder documentation; eliminate documentation defects that cause clearance delays

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or technical Institute or relevant experience
  • Min 2 years relevant experience in the customs domain
  • Demonstrated compliance mindset
  • Experience in temporary import process
  • Previous experience working with Kuwaiti authorities in the relevant domain
  • Strong working knowledge of Arabic and English (oral and written) 
  • The role requires regular visits to authorities for follow ups and check ups
