Support development, qualification, and continuous improvement of forged and bar stock components, including critical rotating hardware for industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and plant support systems

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead research and development program activities on new materials and processes to support new product introductions.
  • Analyze process–structure–property relationships using process modeling (e.g., DEFORM) or CALPHAD tools (e.g., Thermo-Calc), and data analytics
  • Perform root cause and corrective action analyses to troubleshoot problems with current designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead metallurgical investigations on fractured components. Utilize state-of-the-art laboratory characterization equipment to identify metallurgical characteristics relevant to forensic analysis of failure. Report findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Lead qualification and development efforts for power generation components manufactured from forgings and bar stock including critical rotating hardware utilized in industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and plant support systems.
  • Work together with cross-functional teams to perform supplier assessments, identify qualification requirements, and execute supplier qualifications which meet production fulfillment schedules.
  • Plan and conduct material property testing programs. Interpret results and issue technical reports on the findings. Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through new processing methods and alternate materials.
  • Control and improve quality of components by creation and revision of specifications.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience: industry or graduate-level research projects in forging, heat treatment, superalloys/steels, or computational materials science can count toward experience.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced degree in Materials Engineering or related field
  • Significant experience with steel and/or superalloy forging, rolling, and heat treatment operations Significant experience with superalloy material systems and melting practices
  • Statistics and quality tools (DoE, SPC, MSA); supplier audits and special-process requirements (e.g., NADCAP heat treat/NDE).Advanced characterization such as EBSD, EPMA, TOFS, XRD residual stress analysis, or advanced NDE (phased-array UT, CT).
  • Advanced characterization such as EBSD, EPMA, TOFS, XRD residual stress analysis, or advanced NDE (phased-array UT, CT). PLM/ERP (product lifecycle management, enterprise resource planning) familiarity and a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification
  • Experience with Deform or similar forging simulation software
  • Experience with ThermoCalc or similar computational materials engineering software Experience with materials informatics or machine learning for materials
  • Experience with mechanical testing of materials Experience conducting supplier audits
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes Flexibility in handling a diverse and challenging workload
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $80,000.00 and $120,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
