GE Vernova’s Monitoring & Diagnostics team is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Technology function in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced monitoring technologies used across electrical substations to help customers assess, protect, and optimize the performance of critical grid assets, including power transformers, circuit breakers, and related equipment. Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a cross-functional engineering team to deliver new product development projects from concept through design, validation, certification, and launch.
- Support and lead mechanical engineering activities within New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
- Develop mechanical concepts, 3D models, and detailed engineering drawings using CAD tools.
- Perform design analysis, including tolerance analysis and simulation, to support robust product development.
- Define, plan, and execute verification and validation activities for mechanical designs and assemblies.
- Ensure designs meet applicable regulatory, quality, safety, and performance requirements.
- Investigate technical issues through structured root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
- Support manufacturing and global supply chain teams to sustain production, resolve design-related issues, and improve supplier and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Reliability (DFR), and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive improvements in health & safety, ergonomics, and lean engineering practices.
- Prepare and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, test plans, reports, and standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Mechanical design processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Hands-on and proven experience in a mechanical engineering, product development, or manufacturing engineering role.
- Experience in mechanical design and development of industrial or electromechanical products.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
- Experience creating detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and applying tolerance analysis.
- Experience supporting product verification and validation testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Good understanding of engineering documentation and change control practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience working in the power, utilities, or electrical equipment industry.
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) from design through validation and release.
- Experience with aluminium castings, plastic moulded components, and mechanical enclosure design.
- Experience using simulation and analysis tools such as ANSYS.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
- Experience with structured quality and problem-solving tools such as FMEA, RCA, and 8D.
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Reliability (DFR).
- Experience supporting supplier development, manufacturing engineering, or production issue resolution.
- Familiarity with lean principles and continuous improvement tools.
