Job Description Summary
The Reliability Engineer – Asset Performance Management & Electrical Testing is responsible for leading asset performance management initiatives, advanced electrical testing, diagnostics, and lifecycle management of High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), and Low Voltage (LV) electrical assets including transformers, switchgears, RMUs, cables, and substation equipment across power generation, utilities, and service industries. Responsible for reviewing asset engineering documents, developing diagnostic strategies, planning and integrating resources such as data, tools, and technical expertise as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements. Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead APM initiatives as Subject Matter Expert (SME), developing and implementing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) models, Asset Health Indices (AHI), Asset Maintenance Indices (AMI), and remaining useful life estimation.
- Create, customize, and manage asset types, data sets, and recommendations within APM platforms (e.g., ETAC, Grid APM).
- Develop automated diagnostic algorithms for fault detection, risk quantification, and performance trend analysis.
- Support ROI modeling and advise on OPEX/CAPEX optimization aligned with asset condition and risk profiles.
- Generate actionable alerts and maintenance strategies to enhance asset reliability and extend service life.
- Execute and interpret advanced electrical testing and commissioning of transformers, motors, generators, GIS/AIS switchgear, and associated substation equipment.
- Conduct Partial Discharge (PD) testing (online/offline), Infrared Thermography (IRT), transformer oil analysis, dielectric, insulation resistance, and leakage testing, compliant with IEC/IEEE standards.
- Review and assess electrical designs, single-line diagrams, power system studies, and compliance with SAT/FAT protocols.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and develop maintenance strategies based on diagnostics and lifecycle insights.
- Design, develop, and deploy digital inspection tools to optimize field inspection workflows and data accuracy.
- Manage complete asset data lifecycle from site inspection through centralized reporting, ensuring integrity and timely availability.
- Implement defect coding systems and digital reporting forms for operational and safety audits.
- Provide technical evaluation support for asset management tenders ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Assist regional teams in delivering optimized APM solutions and client engagement.
- Conduct client workshops and demonstrations on APM software capabilities and analytics support.
- Ensure all in-field activities are carried out safely complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures.
- Ensure contractual obligations are met and attend technical meetings with customers.
- Provide timely and accurate internal and external reports.
- Support business growth initiatives and drive customer satisfaction through commitment to quality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power specialization preferred) or relevant fields
- Min 5 years' experience in electrical asset diagnostics, APM, and lifecycle management in power generation or utilities
- Proven expertise in electrical testing and commissioning of switchyard and substation assets per IEC/IEEE standards
- Strong skills in diagnostic modeling, data analytics, and digital asset inspection tools
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- This role requires around 20% travel globally
Desired Characteristics
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Certified training in Infrared Thermography Level 1, Partial Discharge analysis, Transformer Oil Analysis, and recognized APM methodologies preferred
- Arabic or additional regional language is an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management abilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey technical concepts to both business and technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of on-site activities.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with digital twin technologies, IoT platforms, or AI-based predictive maintenance tools.
