Job Description

The Robotics & Automation Leader is responsible for defining and executing the automation strategy across repair operations. This role leads the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of robotic and automated systems, ensuring safe, scalable, and reliable solutions aligned with operational and business objectives.

The position provides both strategic direction and technical leadership, with accountability for standardization, project execution, and sustained performance of automation systems across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Automation Strategy & Standardization

  • Define and implement automation strategy aligned with business priorities
  • Establish and maintain global standards for robotics, PLCs, motion control, safety systems, and industrial networks
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, repeatable, and suitable for global deployment
  • Develop and maintain standard hardware and software architectures

System Design & Deployment

  • Lead the design, programming, and commissioning of:
    • Industrial and collaborative robotics (e.g., ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, UR)
    • PLC-based control systems, HMIs, drives, and tooling
    • Vision systems and data interfaces
  • Utilize simulation and offline programming tools to optimize system performance, cycle time, and layout
  • Ensure robust system performance from concept through production handover

Program & Project Leadership

  • Lead automation programs from concept through implementation and handover
  • Manage scope, schedule, cost, risks, and resource allocation
  • Translate business requirements into technical deliverables, including Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and control narratives
  • Manage and oversee system integrators, vendors, and contractors
  • Lead FAT/SAT planning and execution

EHS & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with GE Vernova EHS requirements and Life Saving Rules
  • Design systems in accordance with applicable safety standards (ISO, ANSI, RIA, and local regulations)
  • Lead safety risk assessments and ensure validation prior to commissioning
  • Enforce safe work practices and ensure contractor compliance

Quality & Validation

  • Ensure adherence to Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
  • Lead or support PFMEA development and Process Control Plans
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and audit-ready documentation
  • Support change management and system revalidation activities

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor system performance using KPIs such as OEE, FPY, and reliability
  • Analyze downtime and failure trends to drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with Lean and operations teams

Sustainment & Lifecycle Management

  • Establish and maintain sustainment programs, including preventive maintenance, software version control, and spare parts management
  • Manage system lifecycle, including upgrades and obsolescence planning
  • Define training and competency requirements for operators and maintenance teams

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technicians
  • Act as the escalation point for complex automation issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Quality, EHS, Maintenance, IT, and external partners

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Automation, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field)
  • Extensive experience in industrial automation and robotics within manufacturing or repair environments
  • Proven track record of leading automation projects and programs from concept to deployment
  • Experience working in global, matrixed organizations
  • Strong experience with industrial robotics (ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, UR)
  • Deep knowledge of PLC programming, motion control, and system integration
  • Experience with machine safety systems and industrial standards (ISO, ANSI, RIA)
  • Familiarity with simulation and offline programming tools
  • Strong project and program management capabilities
  • Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions
  • Experience managing vendors, integrators, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Willingness to travel up to ~50%
