Job Description

Job Description Summary

The global energy storage market is evolving rapidly — and the controls engineering at the heart of it determines whether systems perform, scale, and endure. As Senior Engineering Manager for Energy Storage Controls at GE Vernova, you will lead a global team building the control solutions that make utility-scale storage work in the real world.

You will shape how the team operates, how technology gets introduced, and how engineering practice improves over time. This is a role for someone who wants to lead at the intersection of deep technical work and organizational impact — building a team that solves hard problems and delivers with consistency.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the global Energy Storage Controls engineering team, setting direction, developing talent, and partnering with regional execution teams to ensure full project ownership at the local level.

  • Drive the New Product Introduction (NPI) process end-to-end — from concept through commissioning — including tollgate reviews with business leadership and controlled title holders, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

  • Collaborate with Application Engineering, Product Engineering, and Product Leadership to co-develop technology roadmaps and maintain competitive positioning in the energy storage market.

  • Own controls, HMI (Human Machine Interface), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) engineering processes, driving lean, repeatable operations within the Energy Storage Center of Excellence (COE) while identifying opportunities to share and align processes across other product COEs.

  • Define and advance Verification and Validation (V&V) methods that are efficient, transferable, and hardware-minimized — supporting first-piece qualification, field validation, and resolution of in-service issues.

  • Represent GE Vernova at industry events and within professional societies, and partner with technology organizations across the business to accelerate cost-effective development.

Required Qualifications

You are an experienced engineering leader who combines deep controls expertise with the ability to build and align global teams around shared goals.

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) field from an accredited institution is required for this role because the technical depth of control systems engineering at this level demands a foundational engineering education.

  • Significant experience in control systems engineering, with a background in energy storage, renewable energy, or power systems strongly preferred.

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams, including responsibility for people development, process ownership, and delivery accountability.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with utility-scale energy storage projects.

  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.

  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and grid codes relevant to energy storage, including IEEE 2800, IEEE 1547, and UL 9540.

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, and EGD (Ethernet Global Data).

  • Demonstrated ability to build team commitment and foster an inclusive, high-performing culture.
