Job Description Summary
The OpportunityThe electricity grid is changing fast — and the software that runs it needs to keep pace. At GE Vernova's Electrification Software Global Delivery Center in Bucharest, you'll work on the systems that keep energy markets running: trading, settlement, balancing, capacity auctions, and more.
These aren't proof-of-concept projects. They're large-scale, distributed platforms used across multiple countries to manage real energy flows in real time.
If you're someone who finds deep technical problems genuinely interesting — and who wants to see your work matter at a systems level — this role was designed with you in mind.
Employment Type: Full-time employee or B2B collaboration (SRL) arrangements are possible.
Job Description
What You'll Do
You'll join an R&D team in the Market Management System (MMS) department, building a modern, modular platform for electricity market operations. You'll own your work end-to-end — from architecture decisions to deployment — and contribute to a team that values craft, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Design, build, and maintain high-quality Java code on a product used in live electricity markets across multiple regions.
• Take end-to-end ownership of the software lifecycle: solution design, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Optimize distributed systems for performance — working across transactions, caching, message queues, REST endpoints, and JVM profiling.
• Collaborate directly with business and domain experts to translate complex market rules and regulatory requirements into reliable, scalable software.
• Contribute to team standards in code quality, CI/CD, and software design — and actively share what you know.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the full stack, including database query performance, concurrency, and integration points.
Who You Are
You're a seasoned Java engineer who thrives when the problems are hard and the stakes are high. You bring solid hands-on experience with enterprise systems, a sharp eye for performance, and the communication skills to explain complex solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences. You're comfortable owning your work and just as comfortable learning from the people around you.
Required
• Solid hands-on experience with Java 17+ and the Spring Boot ecosystem — including dependency injection, transactions, multithreading, concurrency, and aspect-oriented programming
• Strong proficiency in Hibernate / JPA: transactional behavior, query optimization, persistence best practices, and L1/L2 caching
• REST API development: design, error handling, and integration with front-end or third-party services
• Web security fundamentals, including OWASP principles and secure authentication/authorization flows
• Database proficiency across relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL), including query tuning and transactional integrity
• JVM and database query profiling and performance optimization
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills — you're able to explain complex technical solutions clearly.
Preferred
• Experience with distributed applications, messaging (JMS/MQ), workflow engines (Flowable/BPMN)
• DevOps/CI-CD tooling: Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD, Helm
• Front-end exposure: Angular, TypeScript
• Scripting: Bash, Batch, Groovy.
Education
A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
